Maniac on meth carjacks trooper’s patrol cruiser on Seattle freeway
A shocking incident unfolded on a Seattle freeway when a meth-fueled maniac allegedly dragged a Washington State Patrol lieutenant from her patrol car and sped away in the stolen cruiser. Alexander Eugene Smith, 24, was apprehended after a dramatic police chase that ended with authorities ramming into the hijacked squad car on Christmas Day.
The chaos began when the victimized lieutenant responded to reports of a man wandering across the lanes of Interstate 5. Smith, under the influence of drugs, sauntered onto the highway as cars whizzed by, eventually approaching the marked patrol car and forcibly removing the officer before driving off in the stolen vehicle.
Multiple troopers pursued the stolen cruiser at high speeds along the busy highway before successfully pinning the car to the shoulder and arresting Smith. The lieutenant suffered minor injuries during the carjacking, and several police cars were damaged in the process of apprehending the fleeing suspect.
Smith, who initially refused to identify himself, admitted to smoking meth earlier in the day when police found drug paraphernalia on him at the scene. He now faces charges of robbery, felony eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, and driving under the influence.
Despite his initial refusal to attend his arraignment, Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday afternoon. He is currently being held at the King County jail pending further legal proceedings. This brazen act of carjacking on a busy freeway serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals under the influence of drugs.
