Exclusive | Bari Weiss invites George Clooney to visit CBS newsroom after star says she’s wrecking network

CBS News Editor Bari Weiss Invites George Clooney to CBS Broadcast Center

CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss extended an invitation to newly minted French citizen George Clooney after the star criticized her for the network’s direction. Weiss playfully invited Clooney to the CBS Broadcast Center to learn more about the network’s operations.

“Bonjour, Mr. Clooney! Big fan of your work. It sounds like you’d like to learn more about ours,” Weiss said in a statement shared with The Post. “This is an open invitation to visit the CBS Broadcast Center, where I’m spending the holidays working to relaunch the Evening News with my colleagues. Tune in January 5.”

The invitation comes after Clooney, who recently obtained French citizenship along with his family, accused CBS News of straying from its journalistic core under Weiss’s leadership.

George Clooney’s Criticism of CBS News

In a recent interview, Clooney criticized CBS News for allegedly giving in to President Trump’s influence and accused Bari Weiss of dismantling the network’s journalistic integrity. He expressed concerns about the direction of American media and the network’s handling of lawsuits related to Trump.

Clooney, known for portraying Edward R. Murrow in “Good Night, and Good Luck,” highlighted the importance of holding power accountable, a principle he believes CBS News has failed to uphold in recent times.

Weiss’s Response to Clooney

Weiss, who has faced scrutiny for editorial decisions at CBS News, cleverly responded to Clooney’s criticism by inviting him to the newsroom. She emphasized the importance of journalistic integrity and encouraged Clooney to see firsthand the work being done to relaunch the Evening News.

Despite his new French citizenship, Clooney reiterated his loyalty to his country, hinting at concerns over the state of the press in the US. He emphasized the need for a strong and independent media landscape.

The Post has reached out to the White House, Clooney, ABC, and Disney for comment on the matter.
