JPMorgan confirms Trump claim that CEO Dimon was not offered Fed chair job

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Denies Offer for Federal Reserve Chair

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon confirmed on Saturday that he was not asked to be the Federal Reserve chair, contradicting a report that President Trump had offered him the role.

The Wall Street Journal had reported earlier in the week that Trump offered to nominate Dimon for the Fed chair, but Dimon took it as a joke. However, Trump denied this report on Truth Social, and JPMorgan later supported the president’s statement.

“There was no job offer,” Dimon stated in a press release.

In an email to Reuters, JPMorgan spokesperson Trish Wexler admitted that she should have been more vigilant in correcting the Wall Street Journal story before publication.

Trump also announced his intention to sue JPMorgan within the next two weeks for allegedly “debanking” him after the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

Wexler stated that the bank does not discuss specific clients but believes that no one’s account should be closed due to political or religious beliefs.

“We appreciate the Administration’s efforts to address political debanking, and we support those initiatives,” she added.

Dimon, a prominent figure on Wall Street, has criticized some of the policies of the Trump administration.
