Stranger pushes man, 35, onto NYC train tracks in second random subway shove of 2026: cops, sources

Man Pushed onto Brooklyn Train Tracks in Unprovoked Attack

A shocking incident occurred over the weekend in Brooklyn, where a 35-year-old man was pushed onto train tracks by a stranger in a random and unprovoked attack. This marks the second such subway shove of the year, leaving authorities and sources concerned about the safety of commuters.

The victim was standing on the southbound R train platform at 36th Street in Sunset Park around 4:55 a.m. Sunday when the assailant approached him and forcefully knocked him onto the roadbed without uttering a word. The attacker fled the scene, and despite police efforts, had not been apprehended as of Monday afternoon.

Fortunately, there were no oncoming trains at the time of the incident, and responding officers were able to assist the victim back onto the platform. He was then taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he is currently in stable condition.

The suspect, described as having dark curly hair, a short beard, and wearing a black and gray jacket with khakis, was captured in photos released by the NYPD. This incident is the second unprovoked subway shove to occur less than a month into 2026, following a similar attack on New Year’s Day.

On January 1st, an intoxicated medical student from Russia reportedly shoved a 72-year-old man into a moving Bronx train, rendering the victim unconscious. The suspect in that case, Anton Aleshin, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, and is currently being held without bail.

Despite a promising end to 2025 with a decrease in major subway crimes compared to the previous year, the recent incidents have raised concerns about the safety of passengers in the transit system. Officials reported a 4% drop in major subway crime, a 12.5% decline in robberies, and a 62.5% decrease in shootings.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the latest subway shove to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit the Crimestoppers website to submit tips anonymously. The public’s cooperation is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of all commuters.
