Man stabbed, officer assaulted after brawl erupts at LA’s MLK Day Parade: cops, report
A celebration in Los Angeles honoring Martin Luther King Jr. took a dark turn on Monday when a fight erupted, leading to an alleged stabbing and an assault on a police officer. The chaos unfolded at the intersection of Stocker Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, where a 40-year-old man was reportedly stabbed following a scuffle involving several individuals just before 2 p.m.
As the situation escalated, multiple altercations broke out on adjacent streets, prompting a heavy police response. Officers formed a skirmish line and issued dispersal orders to control the growing crowd.
In a separate incident, a Los Angeles Police Department officer was allegedly assaulted near the MLK Day Parade route in Leimert Park. The officer’s condition and the connection to the stabbing are currently unknown.
Mayor Karen Bass addressed the incidents, stating, “Unfortunately after the parade, LAPD responded to a group of young people creating a disturbance and there are reports of a stabbing towards the end of the parade route that remains under investigation.”
The victim of the stabbing was transported to a nearby hospital, but details about their condition have not been disclosed.
The events that transpired have cast a shadow over what was meant to be a day of remembrance and unity. The investigation into the stabbing and assault continues as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the violent outbursts.
