Massive Anti-ICE Demonstrations Held Nationwide
Protesters organized strikes across the U.S. on Friday to denounce the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. The demonstrations aimed to disrupt normal activities with a “no work, no school, no shopping” message.
The protests were fueled by the tragic death of Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, who was fatally shot while recording Border Patrol officers in Minneapolis. This incident, along with other cases, intensified criticism of the administration’s immigration policies.
Various actions were planned in different states, with some schools preemptively canceling classes in anticipation of significant absences. Students, community members, and activists gathered in city centers, statehouses, and churches to show solidarity against ICE operations.
Just outside Minneapolis, protesters gathered at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building to demand an end to ICE’s activities. The crowd confronted DHS agents and marched towards the facility, expressing their discontent with the agency’s actions.
In Michigan, students from Groves High School walked out of classes to protest ICE’s actions. They marched to the business district, attracting support from commuters. The students emphasized the importance of standing up against injustice.
Nebraska witnessed a disturbing incident where a student was hit by an SUV displaying a Trump flag during a protest against the immigration crackdown. The student was taken to a hospital, and the authorities are investigating the incident.
