‘Beyond the Gates’ EP on Year One, ‘Y&R’ Crossover and Gayle King

As “Beyond the Gates” on CBS daytime television nears its one-year anniversary, executive producer Sheila Ducksworth reflects on the journey that led to the creation of the show. Ducksworth, who grew up watching soap operas like “General Hospital,” always felt a lack of representation on screen. This feeling inspired her to pursue her dream of creating a soap opera that would resonate with viewers.

The show, which follows the wealthy Black Dupree family living in a gated community in the DMV area, premiered in February 2024 and has since aired over 230 episodes across two seasons. Ducksworth’s dedication to creating a lasting and impactful series is evident in the show’s success.

One of the upcoming highlights for “Beyond the Gates” is a crossover event with CBS’s “The Young and the Restless,” bringing together characters from both shows for an exciting storyline. Additionally, CBS Mornings anchor Gayle King will guest star in an episode focused on breast cancer awareness, in partnership with nonprofit Know Your Lemons.

The show also has exciting episodes planned, including a cotillion episode in May and a special Easter episode featuring a surprise guest star who is a Tony and Grammy Award winner. Ducksworth’s collaboration with head writer Michelle Val Jean and producing partner Procter & Gamble has been instrumental in the show’s development and success.

As “Beyond the Gates” celebrates its one-year anniversary, Ducksworth looks back on the journey with gratitude and pride. The show’s impact and ability to address important social issues are a testament to her vision and determination.
