Trump and Pete Hegseth Justify Iran Strike on ‘SNL’: ‘We’re Doing War’

The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” opened with a sketch centered around President Trump’s early morning attack on Iran. The show’s writing team clearly had their work cut out for them as they delved into this controversial topic.

In the cold open which aired on Feb. 28, James Austin Johnson portrayed Trump as he held a press conference to address the military action. Trump, in typical fashion, boasted about his decision to launch the attack, jokingly referring to himself as the “FIFA Peace Prize winner and Nobel Peace Prize taker.” He quipped about being “bored of peace” and justified the attack by claiming Iran had been on the brink of developing a nuclear weapon for years.

The sketch also featured Colin Jost as Trump’s secretary of war, Pete Hegseth, who comically admitted to not knowing what he was doing. The satirical take on the situation provided a light-hearted perspective on the serious topic of military action.

The host of the show, Connor Storrie, was joined by musical guest Mumford & Sons. The episode also saw surprise appearances from USA men’s hockey stars Quinn and Jack Hughes, as well as USA women’s hockey stars Megan Keller and Hilary Knight. Hudson Williams, Storrie’s co-star on “Heated Rivalry,” also made an appearance in a sketch about ice skating.

Overall, the episode was filled with humor and entertainment, tackling current events with the signature wit and satire that “Saturday Night Live” is known for. Viewers were treated to a mix of political commentary and celebrity appearances, making for an engaging and memorable show.
