Retired SWAT commander Bob Krygier blasts sheriff over Nancy Guthrie probe, claims officers previously questioned leadership
A retired SWAT commander recently criticized Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos for his handling of the Nancy Guthrie case, claiming that 98% of the police department had no confidence in the sheriff’s leadership. Bob Krygier, a former Lieutenant at the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, expressed his concerns about Nanos’ communication skills and leadership abilities during a podcast appearance.
Krygier, who spent nearly 30 years in the sheriff’s office, pointed out that Nanos often struggled to effectively deliver messages and get wrapped up in his thoughts, leading to repetitive statements and emotional responses. He emphasized the importance of strong leadership in law enforcement and highlighted the dissatisfaction within the department regarding Nanos’ leadership.
According to Krygier, a morale poll conducted a couple of years ago revealed that 98% of department members had no confidence in Sheriff Nanos for various reasons. With around 450 commissioned officers in the department, Krygier stressed the need for improvement and better leadership.
Despite the overwhelming lack of confidence in Nanos, Krygier claimed that the sheriff did not take steps to address the concerns raised in the poll. Instead of seeking ways to improve the department and mend relationships with the unions, Nanos allegedly disregarded the poll results, making the situation more challenging for everyone involved.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not yet responded to Krygier’s claims. Meanwhile, Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1st. Sheriff Nanos recently stated that investigators were getting closer to finding the suspect or suspects involved in her disappearance.
Nanos has faced criticism for his handling of the high-profile case, with concerns raised about his communication with the media and conflicting information provided early in the investigation. Savannah Guthrie has been actively seeking answers on social media and pleading for the safe return of her mother. She has expressed gratitude for the support from the community and urged continued prayers and hope for Nancy’s safe return.
