Larry David’s New HBO Show Sets Title, Release Date and Cast

Larry David recently shared some exciting details about his upcoming HBO comedy series at a talk during the SXSW festival. The sketch show, titled “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America,” is set to premiere on June 26. It aims to satirize the United States in celebration of its 250th anniversary.

Directed by Jeff Schaffer, known for his work on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld,” the series consists of seven episodes, each containing about four sketches. The cast includes familiar faces from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” such as Jeff Garlin, J.B. Smoove, and Susie Essman, who will be portraying Susan B. Anthony.

In addition to the main cast, guest stars like Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Hamm, Sean Hayes, Jerry Seinfeld, and even former President Barack Obama will make appearances in various sketches. Obama, whose production company Higher Ground is a producer of the show, also provided input on the scripts, much to David’s amusement.

The show follows a similar format to “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with improvised dialogue based on outlined sketches. Described as “‘Curb’ in costume” by Schaffer, the series promises to deliver the trademark humor and wit that fans have come to expect from Larry David.

During a preview clip shown at SXSW, Larry finds himself in a hilarious predicament inspired by a famous historical moment. While the show focuses on 250 years of American history, it also touches on the current political climate, providing a satirical take on the nation’s journey.

When asked about the possibility of retiring after “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” David, ever the comedian, joked about his undeniable talent keeping him in the game. Schaffer added that as long as human interactions continue to provide material for comedy, they will always have a job.

With a blend of historical satire and contemporary humor, “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America” promises to be a must-watch series for fans of Larry David’s unique comedic style. Stay tuned for the premiere on June 26 and get ready to laugh at America’s past and present through the lens of Larry David’s brilliant mind.
