Costco customers fume as fan favorite churros’ replacement costs nearly double
Costco has recently responded to demands for the return of its popular churros, but customers seem to be underwhelmed.
Instead of reintroducing the traditional full-size churros that were a staple in its food court, the Washington-based retailer has introduced a $2.99 Caramel Churro Sundae topped with small churro bites.
This dessert consists of vanilla, chocolate, or swirl soft-serve ice cream drizzled with salted caramel and adorned with crunchy mini churro bites.
Costco’s original churros, fried dough coated in cinnamon sugar, were a long-standing favorite in the food court. They made their debut in the 1990s, initially priced at 99 cents, but underwent changes before being discontinued in early 2024.
Online reactions have been mixed since the unveiling of the new dessert. Some customers expressed their disappointment, stating that they wanted the full churros back rather than just bits of them.
Despite the divided opinions, many shoppers are eager to try the new Caramel Churro Sundae and are looking forward to its availability.
Costco is known for rotating its food court offerings seasonally, and it remains to be seen how long the Caramel Churro Sundae will be on the menu.
This release follows Costco’s introduction of the Double Chocolate Mint Sundae earlier this spring, adding to the variety of sweet treats available to customers.
It’s worth noting that the availability of these desserts may vary by location, as Costco’s food court selections can differ from store to store.
The launch of the new churro sundae coincides with a dessert rivalry between Costco and Sam’s Club, with both chains introducing caramel pastry-topped frozen treats around the same time.
In February, Sam’s Club Café unveiled the limited-time Caramel Palmier Sundae, featuring vanilla frozen yogurt, caramel sauce, and Member’s Mark Cinnamon Palmiers for $1.58.
