Google March Pixel Drop Breaks Always-on Display
Google recently rolled out its March Pixel Drop update, bringing a host of new features to Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 devices. However, alongside these enhancements, a serious bug has emerged, causing the Always-on Display feature to freeze on some devices.
According to reports on the Google Pixel Reddit page, users of Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 phones are experiencing issues with their Always-on Display function following the March update. Users have described instances where their phones have frozen on the AOD screen, requiring a hard reset to resolve the issue.
One user, WafflesAndBacon1997, shared their experience of the phone freezing while using Android Auto through Bluetooth, forcing them to perform a hard reset. Another user, R3Dix, reported similar instances of the phone freezing while locked, with AOD items displaying on top of a black background lock screen.
It appears that disabling the Always-on Display feature can prevent the freezing problem, as some users have reported success after turning off this function. Despite some users attempting a full factory reset to no avail, older Pixel models such as Pixel 8 and Pixel 7 seem to be unaffected by this bug.
While Google has not officially acknowledged the widespread bug, it is likely that the tech giant is working on a solution. The introduction of bugs with software updates is not uncommon for Pixel devices, as users have come to expect regular feature drops alongside occasional technical issues.
In the meantime, affected users are advised to disable the Always-on Display feature to prevent their devices from freezing. Hopefully, Google will address this issue promptly to ensure a smooth user experience for Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 owners.
