Restaurateurs bet on NYC despite Mamdani’s anti-business proposals: ‘Mayors come and go’

A socialist mayor is creating a challenging business environment in New York City, but that hasn’t deterred several restaurateurs from investing in the city and opening new establishments.

Stathis Antonakopoulos is leading the way by launching seven new restaurants this year, with the first one, Delos, already opened in Midtown in January.

Despite his opposition to Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposed $30 per hour minimum wage, Antonakopoulos remains committed to the city and plans to open more restaurants, including a rooftop bar.

Renwick Hospitality is also expanding with the opening of Golden Child, a rooftop bar in Midtown, showcasing a modern American menu and a creative cocktail program.

Restaurateurs Kiril and Metodija Mihajlov are not far behind, with plans to open a new outpost and an elevated sports bar in Murray Hill, demonstrating their resilience and dedication to the New York dining scene.

While facing challenges like rising egg prices, these entrepreneurs are determined to continue serving their communities and contributing to the vibrant culinary landscape of the city.
