Iran live updates: Trump says ‘very good’ Iran talks, hints at ‘total resolution’
President Trump Launches Major Combat Operations Against Iran
President Donald Trump made a bold announcement on Feb. 28, declaring “major combat operations” against Iran. The joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeted military and government sites in a coordinated attack that sent shockwaves across the region.
The strikes resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran on the first day of the operation. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was later chosen to succeed him, marking a significant shift in Iran’s leadership. In response to the strikes, Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, regional U.S. bases, and several Gulf nations. Additionally, Iran has taken measures to block shipping traffic through the vital waterway of the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Israel has escalated its ongoing campaign against the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. The country has also expanded its ground operations in southern Lebanon, intensifying its efforts to counter Iranian influence in the region.
