Ford recalls more than 254,000 vehicles due to software issue that can disrupt rearview camera
Ford Recalls Over 250,000 Lincoln and Explorer Vehicles Due to Software Issue
Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for 254,640 Lincoln and Explorer vehicles due to a software problem that could affect the rearview camera and other safety features. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, which impacts certain models from 2022 to 2025.
The affected vehicles include Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln Nautilus, Lincoln Aviator, and Explorer models. The issue lies in the image processing software, which may reset unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of the rearview camera image and advanced driver assistance features like pre-collision assist, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. This malfunction could compromise the driver’s ability to identify hazards and increase the risk of a collision.
If the software resets, warning messages such as “Front Camera Fault,” “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available,” or “Lane-Keeping System Off” may appear on the display panel. Additionally, the blind-spot indicators may illuminate, indicating a problem with the system.
Owners of the affected vehicles can take them to a dealership for a free software update. Ford will also provide an over-the-air (OTA) update at no cost, ensuring that the issue is resolved for all impacted vehicles. Notification letters will be sent to affected owners on March 30, with the recall number being 26V165.
