Trump threatens to destroy Iranian infrastructure
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a threat to destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants, following an airstrike that targeted the B1 Bridge near Tehran. The attack resulted in the death of eight individuals, according to Iranian state media. Trump’s remarks, posted on Truth Social, hinted at further destruction in Iran, with a focus on bridges and electric power plants.
In a subsequent post on Truth Social, Trump expressed intentions to open the Hormuz Strait, seize oil resources, and profit from the situation. These statements were made amidst reports of a U.S. fighter jet being shot down over Iran, although official responses from both U.S. Central Command and Iranian authorities were not immediately available.
Trump’s aggressive stance towards Iran has been met with defiance from Iranian officials, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi questioning the wisdom of reverting to a “stone age” mentality. Despite Trump’s claims of seeking a ceasefire from Iran’s “New Regime President,” Tehran has refuted any such negotiations.
The Gulf Cooperation Council has called on the United Nations Security Council to intervene and halt Iranian aggressions against its member states, which have been targeted by Iranian missiles and drones. Efforts to pass a U.N. resolution authorizing military action against Iran have been hindered by veto-wielding Security Council members China, Russia, and France.
Legal experts have raised concerns about the legality of targeting power plants and water desalination facilities in Iran, warning that such actions could constitute war crimes. The situation remains tense as Trump continues to escalate rhetoric against Iran, while the international community grapples with the implications of further military engagement in the region.
