Starbucks offers $1,200 bonuses to baristas with top customer service ratings
Starbucks is implementing new initiatives to reward its baristas and improve customer service. The coffee chain is offering baristas up to $1,200 in annual bonuses based on meeting customer service and sales goals at individual locations. In addition to the bonuses, Starbucks is transitioning to weekly pay to provide workers with more financial flexibility.
The decision to introduce these incentives comes as Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol focuses on revitalizing growth and profitability. Following a period of flat or declining sales, the company saw a 4% increase in same-store sales in the most recent quarter. Analysts credit this improvement to Niccol’s “Back to Starbucks” turnaround plan, which includes introducing new menu items and implementing a new barista dress code to enhance the company’s image.
According to Starbucks, the new bonus program will allow baristas to earn $300 per quarter, totaling $1,200 annually, for meeting or exceeding performance goals. The specifics of these goals were not disclosed by the company. The bonus program is set to launch in July.
In addition to the bonus program, Starbucks is also updating its tipping system in the mobile app and at the register for customers who pay by scanning the app. These changes are aimed at making it easier for customers to leave a gratuity, potentially increasing baristas’ tips by 5% to 8%.
The company stated, “As the company’s Back to Starbucks transformation continues to deliver results and an improved customer experience in Starbucks coffeehouses, the new incentive rewards program recognizes partners for the progress they make possible.”
Overall, these initiatives are part of Starbucks’ efforts to drive growth, enhance customer service, and reward its employees for their contributions to the company’s success. The changes reflect a commitment to creating a positive work environment and delivering a superior experience for customers.
