‘Shrinking’ Creator Bill Lawrence Says Season 4 Has ‘A New Story’
With Season 3 of “Shrinking” coming to a close, co-creator Bill Lawrence has already begun teasing what fans can expect in the upcoming fourth season. Lawrence revealed that the next season will bring about a creative reset, introducing a fresh narrative while keeping the core ensemble cast intact.
The show was initially conceived with a three-season arc focusing on themes of grief, forgiveness, and moving forward. As the current narrative arc reaches its planned conclusion, the creative team is gearing up to take the show in a new direction. Lawrence described the upcoming season as “risky” and exciting, emphasizing that this shift will allow the series to explore new avenues for its characters rather than continuing with the existing emotional storylines.
In a recent tweet, Lawrence shared his excitement for the new direction of the show, stating, “Excited to start a completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun.” He also reassured fans that the upcoming season will feature the same beloved cast members.
The comedy-drama, which airs on Apple TV+, stars Jason Segel as therapist Jimmy Laird, a widower grappling with personal loss while trying to rebuild his relationship with his daughter. Harrison Ford plays his mentor, Dr. Paul Rhoades, with a supporting cast that includes Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.
Segel, Ford, Williams, and Urie have all received critical acclaim for their performances on the show, with Emmy nominations and Golden Globe nods under their belts. “Shrinking” itself was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards. Apple TV+ renewed the series for a fourth season earlier this year, ahead of the Season 3 premiere in January.
Fans can catch the Season 3 finale of “Shrinking” on April 8, as they eagerly await the new direction and fresh storytelling that Season 4 is set to bring.
