Elizabeth Banks on Elle Fanning in Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Elle Fanning Receives Elizabeth Banks’ Approval for “Hunger Games” Prequel Role
Elle Fanning has garnered the stamp of approval from Elizabeth Banks for her portrayal of a young Effie Trinket in the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel, titled “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Banks, who portrayed Effie in the original four films, expressed her excitement and support for Fanning’s casting during the premiere of her new Peacock series, “The Miniature Wife.”
Banks shared her enthusiasm for Fanning’s casting, stating, “I think she’s perfect casting. I’ve always said it. The fans loved it and wanted it, so I was really happy about it.” Fanning, in turn, revealed that Banks congratulated her with a bouquet of flowers and a heartfelt message signed with the iconic phrase, “May the odds be in your favor.”
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the prequel follows Effie as she serves as a stylist to District 12 Tribute Haymitch Abernathy in the lead-up to the 50th Hunger Games. The film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel boasts a star-studded cast, including Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, and Ralph Fiennes.
Notably, original franchise stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are also expected to make appearances in the movie. In addition to her role in the “Hunger Games” prequel, Banks takes on a unique role in “The Miniature Wife,” where she plays a woman who is accidentally shrunk to six inches by her scientist husband, portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen.
Banks described the series as a darkly comedic exploration of relationship dynamics, highlighting the theme of minimizing a partner’s feelings and needs. Despite initial concerns about the CGI effects, Banks was pleasantly surprised by the realistic portrayal of her character’s miniature size.
As the series unfolds, viewers can expect a blend of absurdity and introspection as Banks navigates the challenges of being six inches tall. With co-stars using a six-inch doll as a stand-in for her character, Banks embarked on a solo journey that tested her vulnerability and imagination.
“The Miniature Wife” is set to premiere on Peacock on April 9, offering viewers a glimpse into a world where size doesn’t define one’s impact. As Banks delves into the complexities of relationships and identity, audiences can anticipate a thought-provoking and entertaining exploration of what it means to be truly seen.
