Nancy Matayer Bowen and her husband, who is now accused of her murder, were embroiled in a legal dispute with their homeowners association just months before the vice mayor of Coral Springs, Florida, was tragically killed.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Nancy and Stephen were sued by their homeowners association in November 2025.
The homeowners association alleged that the couple had failed to pay certain fees and sought permission to foreclose on their home in order to recover the outstanding amount.
According to the legal filing, the Bowens owed $3,710.25 in unpaid fees and had refused to settle the debt. The lawsuit was eventually dropped in January 2026, just months before Stephen allegedly committed the heinous act.
Following his arrest last week, Stephen stands accused of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with Nancy’s death, as reported by TMZ.
According to the police report, Stephen’s uncle alerted authorities after Stephen allegedly confessed to the crime.
