Graffiti vandals target Pacific Palisades wildfire homes as rebuild stalls

Wildfire victims in Pacific Palisades are facing a new challenge as they try to rebuild their homes – offensive graffiti. Vandals have targeted already devastated properties, street signs, trash cans, and trees with politically charged messages, including “Free Palestine” and “Eat the Rich.”

Residents like Chris Murthy expressed their dismay, calling the graffiti “salt in the wound” and “disheartening.” The vandalism has left many feeling like they are being kicked while they are already down.

Out of the 6,571 homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire, only 13 have been rebuilt, according to the official LA Recovers website. The fire, which broke out in January 2025, claimed the lives of 12 people.

In response to the vandalism, the office of Councilwoman Traci Park has reached out to the LAPD to request increased patrols in the affected areas. They also plan to meet with impacted homeowners to assist with cleanup efforts.

This graffiti comes amidst an ongoing investigation into similar cases of vandalism involving wildfire-damaged homes. Last month, two suspects were arrested in Malibu for allegedly tagging homes and condos destroyed in the Palisades Fire. Authorities found them in possession of more than 50 cans of spray paint and they may face felony vandalism charges.

The community is coming together to address this issue and support those affected by the wildfires. It is a reminder of the resilience and solidarity of the residents in the face of adversity.
