US Airman Andrew Beckham’s dog, car stolen by Colorado house sitter while deployed overseas
A US Airman stationed overseas in Japan is desperately searching for his beloved dog, Maverick, and his car after they were stolen by his house sitter. Andrew Beckham, the airman, shared his heartbreaking story on Facebook, revealing that the house sitter had a “mental break” before taking off with Maverick and his 2014 Subaru Forester.
Beckham hired the suspect through Trusted House Sitters, a platform that connects pet owners with suitable sitters. He has reached out to the company for help in locating the man and his dog, but so far, they have not been found. Doorbell camera footage captured the moment the house sitter guided Maverick out of the house and into the car before driving away without informing Beckham of his whereabouts.
Maverick, an 11-year-old Siberian husky, weighs approximately 60 pounds and has a missing toe on his front left paw. He also has mild arthritis and one blue eye and one brown eye. Beckham described Maverick as a loyal companion who has been by his side through deployments and lonely nights, making his disappearance all the more devastating.
Neighbors have joined in the search for Maverick and the alleged abductor, with volunteers printing out missing posters and plastering them around the neighborhood. Beckham’s neighbor, Carla Wise, expressed her determination to find Maverick, stating, “He’s out there. We’re going to get him. We’re going to find him.”
Despite the efforts of the community, Beckham remains heartbroken over the loss of Maverick and is urging people not to chase, call, or whistle at the dog, as it may cause him to run in fear. The pooch is microchipped and listed on several lost pet sites, but Beckham is still holding out hope for Maverick’s safe return.
