Erika Alexander Submits for Supporting Comedy Emmy for ‘Reggie Dinkins’

Erika Alexander is generating buzz for her Emmy chances with her role in “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.”

According to Variety, Tracy Morgan will be the sole submission in the lead acting categories for his portrayal of Reggie Dinkins, a former football star trying to turn his life around. Alexander, who plays Monica, Reggie’s ex-wife and agent, will be submitted for the supporting comedy actress race, increasing her chances for Television Academy recognition. Her co-star Precious Way will also be submitted in the same category, alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Jalyn Hall, and Bobby Moynihan for supporting actor. More category submissions are expected to be announced later.

The NBC mockumentary has been gaining momentum for the Emmys since its debut in January as a midseason entry. With its 10-episode first season concluding on April 13, the show has garnered a large audience and is being considered a dark horse for outstanding comedy series. Described as NBC’s response to “Abbott Elementary,” the series combines heart, chaos, and a talented cast that keeps viewers laughing and rooting for them simultaneously.

For Alexander, this recognition is long overdue. Known for her role as Maxine Shaw on “Living Single,” a groundbreaking sitcom that shaped Black television comedy, she never received Emmy acknowledgment for her work. Despite this, she has continued to excel in both comedy and drama genres, with notable performances in “American Fiction” and Apple TV’s “Invasion,” where she is also being considered for supporting drama actress.

In “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” Alexander showcases her sharp humor and emotional depth, shining alongside a diverse cast of characters, particularly the complex Reggie. Her performance strikes a perfect balance between comedy and heart, qualities that often attract Emmy attention.

Morgan, a two-time Emmy nominee for his roles in “30 Rock” and “Saturday Night Live,” brings his comedic expertise to the show, while the rest of the cast demonstrates their own potential as contenders if the series continues to gain traction.

Created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, known for their work on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” is positioned to be a standout comedy for NBC this year. With Alexander poised for recognition and the show potentially breaking into the top lineup, it’s shaping up to be a promising season for all involved.
