GM recalls more than 270,000 cars in U.S. over rearview camera risk

General Motors has issued a recall for more than 270,000 vehicles in the United States due to a problem with their rearview cameras. The affected vehicles include certain 2023-2025 Chevrolet Malibu models, where the cameras may display blank or distorted images, posing a safety risk to drivers. Additionally, GM discovered that the mounting configuration of the Sharp camera on the Chevrolet Malibu could expose it to moisture, potentially causing water to penetrate the housing. Despite these issues, GM has stated that there have been no reported crashes or injuries associated with the defective cameras.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification letters from GM starting on May 18. They are advised to bring their cars to GM dealerships, where the rearview cameras will be replaced free of charge to rectify the issue.
