Kansas Man Drains $160,000 From US Banks in ATM Check Deposit Scheme: DOJ

A Kansas resident has recently confessed to a check fraud scheme that resulted in the theft of approximately $160,000 from US banks. Jevon Crudup, the individual behind the fraudulent activity, was found guilty of depositing stolen and altered U.S. Treasury Department checks into bank accounts he accessed through individuals he met online.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri revealed that Crudup utilized the bank account details of online recruits to deposit the altered checks at ATMs. In exchange for financial compensation, these individuals provided their account information and sometimes even access credentials to Crudup. Subsequently, he would use their debit cards to withdraw funds or request cash withdrawals and electronic transfers through various online payment systems.

Throughout the duration of the check-washing scheme, Crudup deposited a minimum of 15 U.S. Treasury Department checks, resulting in $160,000 in losses for the affected banks. As a consequence of his actions, Crudup has been sentenced to 57 months in prison without the possibility of parole. Moreover, he has been mandated to reimburse the impacted banks with approximately $88,020 in restitution.
