Man charged with damaging vehicles outside Chicago firehouses; 21 felonies filed
A man has been apprehended by authorities for a series of attacks on firefighters’ vehicles in Chicago, ending a bizarre crime spree that began in Chinatown. Jacob Bogdan, 26, was arrested on Saturday in the 200 block of West Cermak Road, where a CFD firehouse is located. The arrest followed a public alert issued by detectives regarding the string of incidents.
Bogdan is facing 21 felony charges of criminal damage to property and is set to appear for a detention hearing on Sunday. The spree started on February 5 at 5:22 a.m. when a man armed with an axe targeted vehicles outside the Chinatown firehouse. Subsequent attacks occurred at CFD stations on East Pershing Road and West 59th Street.
Surveillance footage released by Chicago Contrarian captured the suspect wielding an axe and smashing vehicle windows. Although clear photos of the suspect were included in an internal CPD bulletin, these details were not disclosed in the public alert. Authorities have not provided a motive for the attacks, and fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Court records indicate that Bogdan previously served a two-year sentence for criminal damage to government property in Chicago in 2024. Further details about that case are not readily available.
