OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s home allegedly targeted in second attack in two days, cops make 2 arrests
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s San Francisco home was reportedly targeted for the second time in two days, leading to the arrest of two individuals. A Honda car was spotted near Altman’s $27 million Russian Hill mansion early Sunday morning before pulling up outside and firing a shot from the passenger window, according to the San Francisco Standard. A security guard heard the shot and the car quickly fled the scene, but surveillance footage captured the license plate, leading to the arrest of Amanda Tom, 25, and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, 23, at a nearby property. The car belonged to Tom and three guns were seized during the arrest.
San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew emphasized the seriousness of crimes involving guns and stated that the suspects would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Altman and OpenAI have not commented on the incident, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. In a separate incident on Friday, Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, 20, was arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s home, resulting in charges of attempted murder and arson.
Moreno-Gama, who is from Texas, also faced charges of possessing an incendiary device and a destructive device, as reported by KNTV. After throwing the Molotov cocktail at Altman’s home, he allegedly threatened to burn down the OpenAI offices before fleeing the scene. It was later revealed that Moreno-Gama had posted a series of Substack posts expressing concerns about AI leading to the extinction of humanity.
In response to the attacks, Altman shared a photo of his husband Oliver Mulherin and their child in a blog post, urging for a de-escalation of rhetoric and tactics in the AI world. Altman emphasized the need for a more peaceful dialogue and called for fewer explosions, both figuratively and literally. The incidents have shed light on the ongoing debate surrounding artificial intelligence and the potential consequences of extreme actions.
