DUI suspect slams into North Hollywood home after killing 2 pedestrians

An alleged drunk driver caused a horrifying incident in North Hollywood, resulting in the deaths of two pedestrians and extensive damage to a home. The driver, identified as Vidal Cruz Jr. of Pacoima, northeastern Los Angeles, was taken into custody after his car crashed into multiple parked vehicles and ultimately collided with a house.

The tragic event unfolded on Colfax Avenue around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday when Cruz Jr., 31, struck a man and a woman who had just exited a parked Toyota Camry, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The male victim, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female victim, in her 50s, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

A disturbing video captured the suspect’s vehicle plowing into cars parked in a driveway before crashing into the home, leaving a gaping hole in the wall. Despite the severity of the situation, witnesses noted that Cruz Jr. appeared unnerved and attempted to exit his vehicle as though nothing had happened, even as two lives were lost.

Diego Rojas, a resident of the home, expressed disbelief at the driver’s lack of remorse, stating, “He wasn’t as scared or as shocked as he should’ve been. That’s what I noticed. He was just trying to get out of his car as if nothing happened, but two people passed away.”

The LAPD confirmed that Cruz was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, with bail set at $4 million. The community is reeling from the tragedy, with neighbors like Walter Morales struggling to comprehend the senseless loss of life. Morales shared, “It’s just crazy to me, and I’m still processing it.”

The aftermath of the crash serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of staying vigilant on the roads. As the community mourns the victims, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
