Jennie Garth Says Dan Schenider Had Bad Vibes on ‘What I Like About You

Jennie Garth recently opened up about her experience working on the WB sitcom “What I Like About You” during an episode of Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert.” She shared that while filming the show, she chose to avoid interacting with co-creator Dan Schneider, who was embroiled in a scandal at the time.

Garth first mentioned co-creator Will Calhoun, who was producing the show with Schneider. She alluded to the allegations of abuse, sexism, racism, and inappropriate behavior towards young women that were made against Schneider in the 2024 docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” Schneider later sued the producers for defamation in response to the accusations.

Despite Schneider’s involvement in the show, Garth made a conscious decision to distance herself from him. She expressed her discomfort with his presence and preferred to communicate solely with Calhoun, whom she trusted and believed had her best interests in mind.

When asked if she had witnessed Amanda Bynes being negatively impacted by Schneider, Garth mentioned that while there were issues within the ecosystem of the show, she did not attribute it specifically to him. She reflected on working with Bynes, who was just 16 years old when they filmed the pilot together. Garth admitted that she initially struggled to navigate her relationship with a teenage co-star but learned a lot from Bynes during their time working together.

Garth’s candid revelations shed light on the challenges she faced while working on “What I Like About You” and the importance of prioritizing one’s comfort and well-being in a professional setting. The actress’s decision to distance herself from Schneider underscores the significance of creating a safe and supportive work environment for all individuals involved in a production.
