Mercedes-Benz recalls over 24K vehicles due to drive shaft defect
Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 24,000 vehicles due to a drive shaft universal joint issue that may break unexpectedly, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall impacts various Mercedes models, with documents from NHTSA indicating that a broken joint can result in a loss of power, increasing the risk of a car crash.
A total of 24,092 cars from the model years 2018 to 2020 are affected, with the defect estimated to be present in 100% of the recalled vehicles.
FOX Business’s request for comment from Mercedes-Benz representatives went unanswered at the time of reporting.
Dealers will be informed about the recall and will conduct inspections on the drive shaft universal joint.
Mercedes-Benz will also send notification letters to affected vehicle owners by June 2, 2026, according to NHTSA.
In a separate report, NHTSA announced that more than 422,000 Ford vehicles in the U.S. are being recalled due to windshield wiper failure.
