15-year-old charged in downtown robberies tied to Maserati-driving crew
Second Juvenile Charged in Connection with Maserati-Driving Robbery Crew
A second juvenile has been charged in connection with one of the robberies tied to a Maserati-driving crew that wreaked havoc through downtown in March. The crew, known for striking repeatedly and often in broad daylight, has gone silent since the Chicago Police Department announced the arrest of a 17-year-old in connection with two of the holdups, leaving at least three other accomplices still at large.
The latest suspect, a 15-year-old, was apprehended on Monday at the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center, indicating potential legal issues beyond this case. He was part of the group that targeted two men, ages 25 and 47, in the 400 block of West Erie Street in River North on March 17. The victims were robbed at gunpoint by several men who arrived in a dark-colored vehicle before fleeing northbound on Kingsbury Street. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.
Both juveniles have been charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. Prior to the Erie Street robbery, the crew also assaulted a man in the 1200 block of West Flournoy Street on the Near West Side, an area they had not previously targeted. The victim was struck in the head with a firearm, robbed of his wallet and phone, and left injured. The offenders fled the scene in a black SUV, linking this incident to the Erie Street robbery in a CPD alert.
The crew’s criminal spree dates back to early March, with robberies reported on East Chicago Avenue and West Walton Street. Victims lost valuables such as high-end watches, jewelry, purses, clothing, and wallets. In one instance, the offenders staged a rear-end collision as a tactic to approach their victims closely.
One of the crew’s most audacious acts occurred on March 16 in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street, where a 64-year-old man was robbed of his possessions at gunpoint by individuals in a black SUV, possibly a Maserati. The perpetrators then aimed their weapons at two bystanders before fleeing the scene. Surveillance footage captured the SUV heading north on Rush Street and circling back to Chicago Avenue, eventually driving south on Lake Shore Drive.
