Stephen Colbert Flames Trump With Absolutely Unholy Takedown
Stephen Colbert, host of the “Late Show,” suggested that President Donald Trump’s recent attacks on Pope Leo XIV could be a distraction tactic. However, Colbert noted that it’s not working very well. He pointed out that Trump’s feud with the Pope hasn’t diverted attention from a controversial picture the president posted of himself as Jesus, which he has since taken down.
Colbert humorously remarked, “Dude, you can’t compare yourself to Jesus. For one thing, Jesus’s father loved him.” The audience erupted in laughter at the joke.

Colbert also took a swipe at Republican leaders who have defended Trump’s criticisms of Pope Leo XIV. He particularly ridiculed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for trying to correct the Pope on Christian theology related to the war in Iran, citing the “just war doctrine.”
Amused by Johnson’s attempt to school the Pope, Colbert quipped, “Correcting the pope on Catholic theology is a little like going into the woods and saying, ‘Uh, excuse me, Mr. Bear. Do you really think this is the appropriate place for you to be pooping?’”
As a practicing Catholic himself, Colbert explained that the “just war” doctrine requires certain criteria to be met before a war can be deemed justifiable. In contrast, he joked, Trump seems to have taken the country to war for no apparent reason.
