Uber Eats now offers easier returns with ‘instant’ refunds — but it will actually cost you

Uber Eats Introduces New Feature for Online Returns

Uber Eats has recently launched a new feature that allows customers to make online returns without leaving their homes. This innovative service comes with a small fee but provides convenience to avid online shoppers.

Customers can now request a return for eligible retail items purchased through the Uber Eats app and receive an instant refund. This makes Uber Eats the first on-demand delivery platform to offer such a feature in the industry.

For items purchased for $20 or more, shoppers can request a courier through the app to pick up the return, saving them the hassle of going to a physical store. The return fee is calculated within the app based on the courier’s time and distance to make the return.

Once the courier picks up the return, Uber will process the refund immediately, including the item price, applicable taxes, and the Uber Eats service fee. However, tips and the delivery fee from the original order are non-refundable.

The return fee is seen as a small price to pay for the convenience of never having to find parking at the mall again, according to Uber.

Retailers like Petco, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Best Buy are part of the initial launch of this feature on Uber Eats, with plans to add more retail partners in the future.

For items not purchased through the Uber Eats app, customers can utilize the “send items” feature to request a courier to send up to five prepaid and sealed packages to local post offices, UPS, or FedEx locations.

Customers still have the option to make the return themselves if they prefer not to pay the return fee.

This new feature addresses the challenges that online shoppers face when making returns, as revealed in a recent survey. Many shoppers find printing labels, locating packaging, and waiting for a refund to be stressful aspects of the return process.
