Southern Poverty Law Center donors include George Soros, JPMorgan, George Clooney — as nonprofit ‘funneled’ millions to hate groups

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is under scrutiny for allegedly funneling millions of dollars to hate groups despite claiming to stand against them. The organization, which boasts over $786 million in assets, received hefty donations from big-name businesses and philanthropists, including George Soros, JPMorgan, Tim Cook, and George Clooney.

In 2024 alone, SPLC received $106 million in donations, yet still ran urgent appeals for emergency cash. Major donors like George Clooney’s foundation, JPMorgan, Tim Cook, and MGM pledged significant amounts to the organization following the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Virginia.

However, recent revelations from the Department of Justice indicate that SPLC may have been sending money to individuals involved in organizing the same rally they publicly denounced. The DOJ’s indictment revealed that an informant, known as “F-37,” received $270,000 from SPLC between 2015 and 2023.

Other donors to SPLC include George Soros’ Open Society Foundation, Chick-Fil-A, OpenAI, and the studio behind the “Halo” video games. Despite SPLC’s denial of the allegations, the indictment claims that the organization secretly funneled over $3 million to leaders of hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the Aryan Nations.

While SPLC maintains that it has used sources within hate groups for intelligence gathering purposes, prosecutors argue that the funds were misused to support hate content and extremist events. The organization’s lack of transparency regarding these activities has raised concerns about its true motives.

Liora Rez, founder of StopAntisemitism, expressed disbelief at the possibility of SPLC fabricating bigotry to solicit donations. The organization’s “F” rating from Charity Watch for hoarding assets in investment accounts further adds to the skepticism surrounding its practices.

As the SPLC faces legal challenges and public scrutiny, the future of the organization remains uncertain. Donors and supporters are left questioning the integrity and effectiveness of an organization that claims to fight hate while allegedly funding it behind closed doors.
