Sneaky bear snatches bag of Doritos left outside CT home, video shows

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection recently released captivating footage from their study tracking the behavior of bears in the state. Equipped with “bear cams,” these collared bears provided a first-person perspective of their daily activities.

In one amusing incident, a crafty bear cub was caught on camera sneaking into a backyard and snatching a bag of Doritos left unattended on a patio table. The bear, clearly famished, zeroed in on the open bag of nacho cheese chips, clamped its jaws down on the prize, and made a quick getaway into the woods with its stolen snack.

Despite the bear’s daring heist, the rest of the backyard remained virtually untouched, save for a few paw prints in the dirt. This incident highlights the increasing number of human-bear interactions in Connecticut, with encounters on the rise due to deforestation pushing bears out of their natural habitats.

In another comical encounter captured on video, a bear attempted to steal a rolling dumpster while its twin cubs looked on in confusion. Standing on its hind legs, the bear peered into the dumpster multiple times, trying to maneuver it through a parking lot. However, the bear eventually gave up when it proved too difficult to haul the dumpster over a curb.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of coexisting peacefully with wildlife and taking precautions to prevent such interactions. The “bear cam” project offers valuable insights into the lives of these fascinating creatures and underscores the need for conservation efforts to protect both bears and their habitats.
