Alabama High School Basketball Coach Faces Sex Crime Charges
An Alabama high school basketball coach, Paige Adams, has been charged with sex crimes against a student. The allegations include soliciting the victim to send obscene material depicting sexual activity, leading to her resignation from her role as head coach of a championship-winning team.
Court documents obtained by WIAT-TV reveal that Adams, 35, made lewd requests for explicit content from the student on multiple occasions in March. She is also accused of sending such material to the student at least 28 times between February and March.
Adams, who coached the Cold Springs High School girls basketball team, resigned from her position just nine days after the initial allegations came to light. She is set to be arraigned on May 22 and faces over 30 sex crime charges that could result in a 31-year prison sentence.
The charges against Adams include engaging in a sexual act with a student, sexual contact with a pupil under 19, and distributing obscene material to a student. Despite leading the Cold Springs Eagles girls team to a state championship, Adams resigned following the allegations.
Superintendent Shane Barnette received a complaint about Adams, prompting her resignation. He stated, “This is the first formal complaint I have received regarding this employee,” indicating that the investigation was immediately initiated upon receiving the complaint.

Adams’ husband, Drew, who is the coach of the boys basketball team, filed for divorce and requested full custody of their son following the scandal. The couple had been married for 15 years before the allegations surfaced.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Adams’ case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding students and maintaining ethical conduct in educational settings.
