‘Award-winning special education teacher allegedly abused boy for years — starting in a cemetery
A Nevada special education teacher, Douglas Trinkle, who was once hailed as “outstanding” and received a national award, is now facing serious allegations of sexually abusing an underage boy over a period of several years. The abuse reportedly began when the boy was around 14 or 15 years old and continued for an extended period.
According to the charges brought against Trinkle, the teacher allegedly groomed the young boy with gifts and expressions of love before coercing him into engaging in sexual acts. The abuse is said to have started in August 2023 and took place in various locations, including a cemetery where the teacher made the boy vomit during a sexual encounter.
The victim recounted to police that Trinkle forced him to perform oral sex in the cemetery, which resulted in the minor becoming physically ill. Despite the traumatic experience, the teacher proceeded to sexually assault the boy on multiple occasions each week for around two years, without using protection.
Trinkle was arrested on charges of statutory sexual seduction, sexual assault against a child under 16, and child abuse and lewdness committed with a child aged 14 or 15. He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.
While Trinkle worked at Cimarron-Memorial High School, the allegations do not involve any students at the school, as confirmed by the principal. The teacher has taught in various schools across Nevada since obtaining his teaching license in 2012 and was recognized with a national Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award in 2016.
Despite the accolades he received for his work helping students with special needs, Trinkle now faces serious legal consequences for the alleged abuse of an underage boy. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and holding perpetrators of such heinous crimes accountable for their actions.
