Indiana firefighter duo return lost American flag to stranger’s home
A heartwarming story of patriotism and kindness unfolded in South Bend, Indiana, when two firefighters from the local fire department went above and beyond their call of duty. Cody MacLeod and Bryan Haskel were on duty when they noticed an American flag that had been torn off its pole by unseasonably high winds.
Without a second thought, MacLeod and Haskel stopped their truck and retrieved the flag. With precision and care, they folded the flag in a traditional military style and placed it on the homeowner’s porch near its pole. The duo then continued on with their shift, not realizing the impact of their actions.
Meanwhile, homeowner Tyler Gillean was away at the airport when he received a notification from his Ring camera of activity on his front porch. Curious, he checked the live feed and was touched to see MacLeod and Haskel returning his flag with such reverence.
Gillean expressed his gratitude, stating, “How they cared for it, set it here so delicately, is just amazing. That’s the type of people we have serving the South Bend fire department.”
Both MacLeod and Haskel come from military families, and their act of patriotism was second nature to them. They humbly downplayed their actions, emphasizing the importance of unity and kindness in today’s world.
“We just have a lot of patriotism and that flag means a lot,” MacLeod shared. “Once we could figure out where it belongs, I mean, why not just put it back?” Haskel added.
The firefighters believe that small acts of kindness, whether seen by others or not, can make a significant difference. They hope that their story inspires others to spread positivity and goodwill in their communities.
In a time when the world can feel divided, MacLeod and Haskel’s simple gesture serves as a reminder of the power of coming together and helping one another. Their story is a testament to the impact of kindness and the unity that can be achieved through small acts of generosity.
