George Kittle gets tongue-lashing from PETA for killing spider
George Kittle, the star tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, found himself in hot water after a late-night encounter with a spider in his bathroom. The incident, which Kittle shared on his X page, involved him bravely taking on the arachnid, which he described as being the size of a half dollar. Using a slant board normally reserved for rehab, Kittle managed to defeat the eight-legged intruder, much to the relief of his wife, Claire.
However, not everyone was impressed by Kittle’s actions. PETA, the animal rights organization, condemned the NFL player for his “unnecessary roughness” towards the spider. In a statement to The California Post, PETA’s senior vice president, Lisa Lange, urged Kittle to adopt a more compassionate approach to dealing with unwanted guests. Spiders, she pointed out, are much smaller and more vulnerable than humans, and they play a crucial role in ecosystems.
In response to Kittle’s spider-slaying incident, PETA offered to send him a humane bug catcher as a more gentle alternative for future encounters. The organization emphasized the importance of coexisting with spiders and suggested using humane deterrents like peppermint oil to encourage them to move along. PETA also directed Kittle and others to their website for further tips on safely removing bugs from their homes.
While Kittle may have thought he was simply protecting his family from a creepy-crawly invader, PETA’s criticism serves as a reminder to approach all living creatures with respect and compassion. As a public figure, Kittle’s actions have the potential to influence others, and PETA’s message of kindness towards all beings is an important one to consider. Hopefully, Kittle will take PETA’s advice to heart and find a more humane way to deal with future spider sightings.
