Trump wraps up two-day China trip; invites Xi for a September visit
U.S. President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House on September 24, following their two-day summit in Beijing. This announcement was made during a state dinner, as shared in a video by the White House.
During their meeting, Xi and Trump agreed on “strategic stability” as a framework for the next three years, as reported by state media. The outcome of the summit will depend on which deals the president wants to prioritize and see through. According to Ryan Fedasiuk, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, many potential deals may need more time to develop fully.
While Trump has extended the invitation, China has not yet confirmed whether Xi will accept. The United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to take place earlier in September in New York, which may conflict with the proposed White House visit. Alternatively, the two leaders could potentially meet at the APEC meeting in Shenzhen in November, or the G20 meeting in Florida in December.
It is essential for both countries to continue discussions and negotiations to address key trade issues and maintain a stable relationship. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
