1 dead, 1 critical after daylight shooting in Edgewater

A tragic shooting incident occurred in Edgewater on Thursday morning, resulting in one man dead and another critically injured. The police are now investigating whether the shooting was a result of one man shooting the other before turning the gun on himself.

The incident took place in the 1400 block of West Thome Avenue at 7:19 a.m., where authorities found a 53-year-old man and another unidentified man on the ground with gunshot wounds. The 53-year-old victim is currently in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital, while the second man tragically succumbed to his injuries.

According to witnesses, it was reported that one of the men shot the other before taking his own life. Detectives are actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Additionally, a second weapon and four ammunition magazines were found on one of the men at St. Francis Hospital, according to initial reports.

This incident marks the second shooting in Edgewater this year. Previously, on April 25, a 46-year-old man was shot by at least two gunmen near the 5200 block of North Broadway late at night. It remains unclear whether the victim was the intended target in that case.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the lack of accurate information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage has since expanded to include areas like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side neighborhoods. Despite our growth, our mission remains the same: to deliver original public safety reporting with in-depth context and detail that surpasses mainstream media outlets.
