Mom reported son had runaway in camo, weapons missing just hours before San Diego mosque shooting

The mother of one of the teenage San Diego mosque shooters frantically contacted the police, expressing her concern that her son, who was suicidal, had run away wearing camouflage and had taken some of her weapons. This urgent alert led to a massive search effort by law enforcement in the hours leading up to the tragic incident at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday.

The suspects, identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Velasquez, were the focus of the search after the mother reported that weapons were missing from her home and her car was also gone. Cain Clark had dressed in camouflage and was accompanied by an acquaintance at the time of their disappearance.

Police utilized automated license plate readers to track the car and searched a nearby mall, as well as contacted a school where at least one of the teens had attended. The search continued as authorities interviewed the mother for more information.

When reports of the shooting came in, officers responded within minutes. Tragically, the suspects had already shot and killed three men, including a heroic security guard named Amin Abdullah, who was a father of eight.

The teens were later discovered in a vehicle after taking their own lives a few blocks away from the scene. Anti-Islamic writings were found in the suspects’ vehicle, and “hate speech” was inscribed on the firearms used in the shooting, according to sources.

Cain Clark was a student at Madison High School and a member of the school’s wrestling team. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities planning to execute search warrants related to the case as they work to understand the motives behind the shooting.

The tragic events of that day have left the community in shock and mourning, as they try to make sense of the senseless violence that unfolded at the mosque. As more details emerge, the focus remains on providing support to the victims’ families and seeking justice for those affected by this devastating incident.
