Crypto PACs spend $9 million in Texas and score wins in both parties

Crypto-Focused Political Committees Making Waves in Texas Primaries

As the Texas primaries unfold, crypto-focused political committees are making their presence known with a significant financial investment of over $9 million in races this cycle. This bipartisan effort has seen industry-backed candidates from both parties secure victories, showcasing the growing influence of cryptocurrency advocates in the political arena.

One of the standout races was the Democratic primary runoff for Texas’s 18th Congressional District, where Houston Democrat Christian Menefee emerged victorious over incumbent Rep. Al Green. Green, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, faced challenges following Republican-led redistricting that forced him into a rare incumbent-on-incumbent showdown. Green’s defeat, in part due to his anti-crypto stance, highlights the electoral consequences of opposing key industry-backed legislation.

Geoff Vetter, a spokesperson for Fairshake, noted, “Rep. Green’s defeat proves that anti-crypto hostility carries real electoral consequences. Fairshake played a crucial role in this race and will continue to support leaders like Rep. Menefee nationwide.”

In the Republican Senate primary, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton secured victory over longtime Sen. John Cornyn with support from crypto-focused political committees such as Defend American Jobs and Protect Progress. Additionally, the Fellowship PAC provided financial backing to Paxton, underscoring the industry’s influence in shaping electoral outcomes.

Across Texas, Defend American Jobs invested approximately $1.8 million in supporting winning Republican candidates in low-turnout runoffs. Candidates like Jon Bonck, Tom Sell, Carlos De La Cruz, and Alex Mealer received substantial funding, positioning them favorably for the upcoming November elections.

Tuesday’s results reflect the crypto industry’s strategic positioning for the 2026 midterms, where Democrats are expected to make significant gains in both the House and Senate. With a well-capitalized war chest and a strong bipartisan approach, crypto-focused political committees are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape in Texas and beyond.
