Apple reveals long-delayed Siri AI makeover at Worldwide Developers Conference

Apple has finally unveiled a significant AI-powered update for its Siri voice assistant, marking a major leap forward after years of delays that had caused concern on Wall Street.

The upgraded “Siri AI,” developed in collaboration with Google, took center stage at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference in Cupertino, California. The new version promises to be more capable and conversational compared to its predecessor, which was last updated in 2011.

According to Apple executives, the Siri AI now has enhanced world knowledge and a significant improvement in its voice-to-text accuracy, making tasks like dictating messages and emails much easier. It can also interpret photos and provide real-time responses based on them, in addition to its existing virtual assistant features.

Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, described the update as a “big leap forward for Apple Intelligence,” taking a direct jab at competitors who have rushed out AI features without considering the end users.

While the AI rollout is seen as a crucial test for incoming CEO John Ternus, who is set to succeed Tim Cook on September 1, the long-awaited Siri upgrade will be his immediate challenge as the new head of the company.

Despite facing setbacks during development, including bugs and glitches, Apple has now successfully launched the updated Siri AI. The company made significant changes to its AI teams last year, appointing new leadership to drive its AI strategy forward.

Apple’s focus on integrating AI into everyday products while prioritizing user privacy and personalization was evident in the WWDC presentation. The company aims to make AI seamless and valuable in users’ daily lives.

Aside from AI advancements, Apple also introduced the next version of MacOS called “Golden Gate,” featuring upgrades to the screen display, animations, and app load times. The company emphasized its commitment to trust and safety, particularly in enhancing kids’ safety features and parental controls.

Despite challenges in the supply chain and a lack of significant AI features, Apple’s iPhone and MacBook sales have remained strong. Investors have shown positivity towards the company’s AI partnership with Google Gemini.
