Man charged with murdering Uptown condo board president who asked him to leave property
Prosecutors have filed charges against an Uptown man in connection with the murder of a neighborhood condo board president. The victim’s name has not been released, as his next of kin had not yet been notified. Jonathan Wilson, 38, was shot by Chicago police officers after he raised a firearm toward them during a chase. He survived the incident and remained hospitalized.
The incident took place at a condo building on North Clark Street, where Wilson was initially arrested after causing a disturbance in his girlfriend’s apartment. He was served with a protective order but returned to the property in violation of that order. The condo board president attempted to escort him out of the building, leading to a confrontation where Wilson allegedly shot the victim multiple times. The victim was later pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Wilson is facing charges of first-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a weapon, aggravated assault of a peace officer, and aggravated possession of a weapon. He is scheduled for a detention hearing, pending his release from the hospital. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duty while COPA investigates the use of force.
Residents of the condo complex had reportedly been working with the board president to address the situation with Wilson, but a final notice had not been approved before the tragic incident occurred. This case highlights the importance of addressing domestic situations and restraining orders promptly and effectively to prevent such tragic outcomes.
As this story continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement and community members in dealing with individuals in crisis. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
