PARIS — Claude Guillemot, one of the founding members of the renowned gaming company Ubisoft and the visionary behind the iconic Assassin’s Creed series, tragically lost his life in a plane crash in western France, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

Ubisoft released a statement to The Associated Press announcing the untimely passing of Claude Guillemot, who also served as the president of the Guillemot Foundation. The details surrounding the accident were not disclosed by the company.

The fatal crash occurred when a Cessna plane carrying Guillemot and another individual crashed in a field near La Baule Airport on the Atlantic coast. Both occupants of the aircraft were reported to have lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Claude Guillemot, along with his four brothers, co-founded Ubisoft in 1986. Apart from the immensely popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft is known for its diverse range of games including Just Dance, Rayman, and the Tom Clancy series.
