American Olympic canoeist David Hearn arrested for allegedly vandalizing Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
A former US Olympian, David Hearn, was recently arrested for allegedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC. Hearn, a three-time Olympic canoeist, claimed he was cycling past the monument when he noticed a piece of the pool’s liner floating in the water. He reached out to touch it and was promptly taken into custody by Park Police.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Hearn denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I didn’t vandalize anything. I didn’t destroy or break or peel anything. By the time I realized what was going on, I was being put in handcuffs.” The incident occurred shortly after President Donald Trump claimed vandals had damaged the recently renovated reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial, prompting an investigation by authorities.
Hearn, who competed in three Summer Olympics as a canoeist, with his last appearance in the 1996 Atlanta games, was detained for nearly five hours at a Park Police facility in Hains Point. It remains unclear if he will face charges in connection with the alleged vandalism.
As this is a developing story, updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further details on this incident involving the former US Olympian and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC.
