Daveigh Chase, Voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stitch, Cause of Death Revealed

The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office recently disclosed the cause of death for Daveigh Chase, the talented actress known for voicing Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch” and appearing in “The Ring.” Chase tragically passed away on June 17 in Los Angeles at the age of 35.

According to the coroner’s office, Chase, also known as Daveigh Schwallier, succumbed to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The official report listed “chronic polysubstance use” as a secondary cause of her untimely demise. John David Schwallier, Chase’s father, revealed to the New York Times that she had been battling homelessness and substance abuse issues since the tender age of 13. Regrettably, he had lost contact with her for many years.

Chase’s boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, initially informed TMZ that she had been diagnosed with meningitis and sepsis, a severe infection reaction. Prior to her passing, Hernandez shared in a GoFundMe post about their challenging journey, stating, “After a difficult childhood and estrangement from her family, Daveigh faced bullying and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown L.A. When we crossed paths, I vowed to shield her and provide the love and solace she deserved. Together, we discovered moments of joy and optimism.”

Following her departure from the entertainment industry around 2016, Chase encountered legal troubles involving charges related to riding in a stolen vehicle and possessing a controlled substance.

After gaining recognition for her role as Lilo, Chase continued to lend her voice to projects such as “Stitch! The Movie” (2003), “Leroy & Stitch” (2006), and Disney Channel’s “Lilo & Stitch: The Series.” In HBO’s “Big Love,” she portrayed Rhonda Volmer, the teenage bride of fundamentalist leader Roman Grant.

Her acting portfolio also includes memorable performances as the eerie Samara Morgan in the horror classic “The Ring” and Samantha Darko, the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character in “Donnie Darko.” She reprised her role in the direct-to-video sequel, “S. Darko,” in 2009.

Daveigh Chase’s legacy as a talented actress will forever be remembered by fans worldwide, despite the personal struggles she faced throughout her life. May she rest in peace.
