Diljit Dosanjh Film ‘Satluj’ Streams Uncut on ZEE5 Global
“Satluj,” the highly anticipated drama directed by Honey Trehan, has finally made its global streaming debut on ZEE5 Global on July 3. Inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, the film tells the powerful story of Khalra’s relentless pursuit of justice for the thousands who disappeared during Punjab’s insurgency-era crackdowns. Starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, alongside Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, “Satluj” sheds light on the personal sacrifices Khalra made in his fight against a system determined to suppress the truth.
The journey of “Satluj” to its release has been marked by challenges and controversy. Originally titled “Ghallughara,” a term that signifies the massacres of Sikhs in various historical events, the film faced censorship hurdles in India. After being cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with 21 cuts and a mandated title change to “Punjab ’95,” the filmmakers decided to appeal the decision in the Bombay High Court. The film was also withdrawn from its planned premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, citing political reasons for the decision.
Director Honey Trehan expressed his satisfaction with the final version of the film, now titled “Satluj,” stating that it is presented in its original form without any compromises or cuts. The collaboration between the cast, led by Diljit Dosanjh, and the producers was instrumental in preserving the integrity of the film. Harish Goyal from ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. emphasized the importance of “Satluj” in connecting South Asian audiences with their history and realities, praising Diljit Dosanjh’s performance for its honesty and conviction.
Producer Ronnie Screwvala commended Trehan’s passion and commitment to the project, highlighting Dosanjh’s portrayal of Khalra as a testament to the character’s inspiring legacy. Dosanjh himself expressed his deep sense of responsibility towards portraying Khalra’s story with truth, honesty, and respect, honoring the activist’s martyrdom and contribution to humanity.
“Satluj” not only serves as a platform for showcasing courage, resilience, and the fight for justice but also stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the cast and crew in bringing this important story to life. With Trehan’s previous success in directing projects like “Raat Akeli Hai” and Suvinder Vicky’s impressive track record in both series and film, “Satluj” promises to resonate strongly with audiences worldwide.
In conclusion, “Satluj” is a film that not only sheds light on a crucial chapter in history but also pays tribute to the individuals who dedicated their lives to seeking justice and truth. Through its powerful storytelling and exceptional performances, “Satluj” is set to make a lasting impact on audiences and spark important conversations about human rights and activism.
