Oakland police search for pistol-whipped woman kidnapped at gunpoint
Oakland police are currently in a frantic search for a woman who was violently kidnapped on Friday. The suspect reportedly struck the victim with a firearm before forcing her into a dark-colored, four-door sedan, according to police reports released on Tuesday. The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Redding Street near Oakland’s Laurel District.
The victim is described as a white female, aged between 30 to 32 years old, weighing about 130 pounds. The suspect, on the other hand, is described as a black male, also aged between 30 to 32 years old, standing at 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds.
Police have shared that the suspect was armed with a “Glock-style handgun” and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue-and-white pants. However, the identities of both the victim and the suspect have not been disclosed, and it is unclear if they have any prior connection.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Oakland Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit at (510) 238-3641 or call 911. The Oakland Police Department has not provided any further details at this time.
In a separate incident, an Uber driver was recently pistol-whipped at the Oakland Marriott while waiting for a customer. The assailants robbed the driver of his wallet and cell phone before fleeing the scene. These incidents add to the growing public safety crisis that Oakland is currently facing, prompting some businesses to relocate from the area. Even Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee fell victim to crime when a thief broke into her City Hall office and stole the city-owned black SUV in February.
While crime rates in Oakland have reportedly dropped according to recent data, residents do not feel the impact of this decrease. A survey revealed that 92.1% of Oakland’s black respondents identified crime and public safety as a major concern, marking the highest level recorded for any issue among any demographic group surveyed. The city continues to grapple with these challenges as law enforcement works to address the ongoing safety issues in the community.
